Accessible Vilanova : accessibility project of the public street and commercial zone of Vilanova i la Geltrú.

Street map of Vilanova i la Geltrú with sreets standed out using a color code (green, red, yellow).

The students of the subject “Habitatge i Cooperació” from the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB) (Barcelona Higher Technical School of Architecture) have carried out an extensive planimetric data gathering of the main commercial streets in Vilanova i la Geltrú and also of the access situation to community centers, offering this way a new perspective for the architecture students: the adaptation of the analyzed routes and access for people with disabilities. The work has been supervised by the subject teachers Sandra Bestraten and Emili Hormías. The study consists of architectural plans with colored symbols (green, yellow and red) indicating each a level of accessibility of the elements studied; documentation about the access to each shop or public facility in order to analyze them; in the cases of not being facility accessible, solutions for the owner to adapt the shop access properly; and finally, an informative leaflet for the shops owners in which the most common problems are gathered and a set of possible solutions to them are offered.
